Action Figures for Designers

Action figures aren't just for kids. (Especially at prices sometimes over $100 @)

If you go into many designer's, animator's, or cartoonist's offices you will often find a collection of action figures. These are hand-sculpted characters reproduced in limited editions. Designers sometimes use them for visual references in drawing the human figure but often just like looking at and admiring them.

The quality of action figures can range from pretty schlocky to incredible. Hot Toys may have just produced the most amazing action figure ever produced. There are many version of the Joker from the new Dark Knight movie but the Joker: Bank Robber version is absolutely incredible. Looking at the pictures here it is really hard to believe that this is the level of detail of a plastic figure in which the whole body is only about 12" tall.

Hot Toys is releasing this 1/6th scale figure of The Joker in “Bank Robber” mode. The figure features 32-points of articulation, and comes with a choice of two removable heads, one with a huge grin, the other with the slicked back hair. Accessories include a removable clown mask, handgun, a bigger gun, duffle bag, smoke and fragmentation grenades, playing cards, gotham city money and more. Note that this level of detail is only found in the Bank Robber version and surpasses others that get close but aren't the same.

Now there is a challenge for would-be sculptors.
