Most Influential People of the 21st Century

When Esquire magazine named its ideas of the 75 most influential people of the 21st century it is no surprise that several of those people are designers.

People like architect Santiago Calatrava (left) and new President of the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) John Maeda (right) show us that the future will be a blend of science and vision that needs to neither over-emphasize the engineering nor neglect the design to create a beautiful blend of simple form and function.

The film maker and avid sketchbook artist Guillermo del Toro is appropriately represented in the Esquire article by a drawing of himself by himself rather than a photo. He is one of the best examples in modern times of a visual thinker.
