Several magazine publishers have created digital versions of their magazines to take advantage of the advanced technology provided by the iPad and iPhone.
Now we have our first full-length interactive multimedia digital book that demonstrates the potential of the new publishing era. Al Gore's new book, "Our Choice", (left) is available in an interactive digital version for only $4.99 on the iPad or iPhone available through the App Store.
This opens up a whole new world for designers of magazines and books who will need to develop new skills to keep up with the advanced features (sound, animation, video, interactive graphics, etc.) expected in this new publishing era. The cover of the book (left), for example, has a blue dot that shows where the reader is on the planet at the moment.
Push Pop Press is building a tool for licensing to publishers that provides them with the ability to publish full-length multimedia books with audio, video, animation, and interactive infographics. Al Gore's "Our Choice", a sequel to "An Inconvenient Truth", is the first book of this type. It includes over an hour of documentary film footage embedded in the book.
